Rates Search Request Form

Every Queensland council must keep a land record for each parcel of rateable land, showing the owner's name and postal address, the land's description, valuation and the rates and charges levied, including any overdue amounts and interest (Local Government Regulation 2012 s 154). Overdue rates and charges are a charge on the land (Local Government Act 2009 s 95), which is why a buyer checks the rates position before settlement. Winton's one-page form (WSC-FIN-FRM-002) asks for applicant and property details and offers a normal or an urgent rates search, the urgent option within up to 3 working days.

When you need it

• You are buying or selling property in Winton or elsewhere in the shire and need the rates position before settlement.
• You need the search back within 3 working days (urgent).

   Applicant details

   Give your name, postal address, attention or reference, email, phone, the date of application and the settlement date.

   Type of search

   Tick normal or urgent. The fee for each is printed on the form.

   Property details

   Enter the property address, lot number, plan number, vendor and purchaser.

   Payment

   Enclose a cheque payable to Winton Shire Council, or complete the credit card section (Mastercard, Visa or Bank Card) with the cardholder's name, card number, expiry, amount, signature, date and phone.

• The form does not give a turnaround for a normal search. Ask council if your settlement is close, or order the urgent search.
