SALI v3.2 Taxonomy Update - What Changed
OMPN Team
Open Matter Plans Network
SALI (Standards Advancement for the Legal Industry) has released version 3.2 of their Matter Taxonomy, introducing 18 new area-of-law codes and a significant restructuring of the dispute resolution hierarchy. This post explains what changed and how we have updated the Open Matter Plans registry to reflect it.
New Area-of-Law Codes
The 18 new codes primarily expand coverage in three areas: digital assets and cryptocurrency regulation, climate and environmental compliance, and cross-border data privacy. These additions reflect the growing demand for standardised matter classification in emerging practice areas.
- 6 new codes for digital asset and cryptocurrency matters
- 5 new codes for climate and environmental compliance
- 4 new codes for cross-border data privacy
- 3 new codes for AI governance and technology regulation
Dispute Resolution Restructure
The dispute resolution hierarchy has been flattened from four levels to three, with mediation and arbitration now sitting as siblings rather than children of a generic "ADR" parent. This better reflects how practitioners actually classify their work and improves search and filtering accuracy.
If you are using the OMPN API to sync plans by SALI code, the old codes will continue to work via our backward-compatibility layer for 12 months. New integrations should use the v3.2 codes immediately.
What This Means for Your Plans
We have already re-tagged all affected plans in the registry. No action is required on your part - the updated taxonomy codes will flow through to your PMS on the next sync cycle. If you have custom filters or reports keyed to SALI codes, we recommend reviewing them against the updated hierarchy.
