What the Rates Search Request Form is for
Isaac Regional Council suggests that anyone buying or selling in the Isaac region have their solicitor or conveyancer request a rates search before settlement, because it includes a special water meter reading. A full rates search gives financial information, including arrears and interest outstanding, plus the currently billed water consumption. It comes from the land record a Queensland council must keep for rateable land, showing the owner, valuation and the rates and charges levied, paid and overdue (Local Government Regulation 2012 s 154), and the public may inspect it for a fee set by the council (s 155). Overdue rates and charges are a charge on the land (Local Government Act 2009 s 95). A registered owner search gives the current owner's name and postal address. Planning and building searches use the separate Property Search Request.
When you need it

- You need the result within 3 business days (urgent rates search).
- You have a vested interest in a parcel and need the registered owner's name and postal address.

Filing, lodging and service
- Lodge by email to records@isaac.qld.gov.au, by post to Isaac Regional Council, PO Box 97, Moranbah QLD 4744, or in person at your local council office.
- Timeframes start from the date council receives both the request and the fee, and exclude weekends, public holidays and the Christmas and New Year close-down.
- Fees are printed on the form. Council's rates page links the current 2026 version of the form; use that one, because the fees changed from 1 July 2026.
Common mistakes
- For a registered owner search, the form says to give a written request stating the lot and plan, your name, address and phone number, and your reason for having a vested interest in the parcel.
- The registered owner search comes from council's rating system and does not check with the State whether the property has recently been on-sold.
- No refund is given for an incorrect request, a search cannot be cancelled once started, and council will not give results verbally.
